CCTV

Executive Director: Jessica Smyser

Cambridge Community Television nurtures a strong, equitable, and diverse community by providing tools and training to foster free speech, civic engagement, and creative expression while connecting people to collaboratively produce media that is responsive, relevant, and effective in a fast-changing technological environment.  In January 2021, CCTV’s Executive Director retired, having been with the non-profit community media center since its founding 33 years ago. That same month CCTV's part-time bookkeeper moved on to a new full-time job. Plus covid was happening. It could have been a precarious time for the organization. I’m proud that CCTV didn’t skip a beat despite the lack of continuity at that moment! Between Numbers in Boxes’ tried-and-true processes and systems and Jessica’s leadership and management expertise, we brought the organization through a year of pandemic and an audit, with no sweat.

"I trust Lindsay and her team with my bookkeeping, yes, but Lindsay is more than a bookkeeper. She has really been a thought partner for me on how to update and streamline our financial systems and more clearly communicate our financial health to our board and constituents."

Verse Video Education

Executive Director: Lisa New

Driven by the goals and values of its flagship project, Poetry in America, Verse Video Education develops video and accompanying curricular materials in the arts and humanities and beyond, creating a body of educational content capable of reaching a very broad community of learners: formal and informal, online and residential, young and old, American and international. By producing its own projects and creating thoughtfully-constructed and thought-provoking multimedia content for other organizations, Verse Video Education aims to enhance educational experiences, both within and outside of the classroom.

Before Numbers in Boxes, Verse Video wasn’t using the most efficient tools or best expertise to track grant spending, which made compiling expenditure reports more time-intensive and demanding than necessary. We set up QuickBooks in a way that makes reporting easy and ensures all funding is highly organized, and meticulous reporting on individual activities is instantaneous to produce. Now the whole organization has an understanding of how the bookkeeping process and the actual day-to-day business work together so that every expense is accounted for in the right bucket. We have also saved time on planning with our analysis of cost per episode and cost per season and helped turn Verse Video’s cash needs into fundraising goals.

“We couldn't be happier with Numbers in Boxes. Lindsay and her staff are thorough, responsive, well-organized, and they have helped us make sense of complex operations. They bring experience and meticulous attention to the job, ask good questions, demonstrate good judgment, and are upfront in the most helpful way. A pleasure to work with.” - Adam Kosan, Associate Producer
